A Message From the Founder
Hi everyone👋—my name is Ryan and I’m the founder of Revel Frozen Food. I grew up in Southern California with my twin brother, older sister, and younger brother. The first real interest I picked up wasn’t cooking, but actually basketball, when my parents first introduced it to me as a 3-year-old. I instantly fell in love with the game and would go on to spend the next 11 years believing that I had a shot at a career in the NBA. High school came and that idea instantly vanished as I realized there were levels to basketball, and being realistic, I probably couldn’t get there. So I switched to tennis. I played tennis throughout all four years of high school, and luckily enough, I was able to find my core group of friends I would spend most school days and extracurricular activities with.
I graduated from high school and would go on to study Finance at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. Before beginning college, I knew that finance piqued my interest, and I initially believed that I wanted a career in investment banking—as all finance bros want. However, just like the NBA dream, that notion was quickly set aside as I struggled to find real value and meaning doing my internships, networking calls, and all the other expected things a Finance student should be doing.
Despite the internal struggle I was facing with finding a meaningful career, I was really enjoying college because of the close bonds I shared with my roommates that I would end up living with over the next 4 years. On most nights we’d take turns cooking meals for our small apartment and through this avenue, I learned how much I really do enjoy cooking and all the intricacies of it. Serving my first meals to my roommates was when the lightbulb hit that cooking is undoubtedly what I’ve been looking for. I couldn’t find a more rewarding feeling than seeing my roommates devour the food I prepared for them and having such a curiosity on how it’s made. From those moments, I knew that I wanted to replicate these feelings at scale—so I created Revel.
